VOCAL-KY CONDEMNS MAYOR GREENBERG’S ENFORCEMENT OF MASK BAN IN LOUISVILLE

Enforcement of Mask Ban Serves as Another Excuse to Ticket and Arrest People, Particularly Black and Brown Lousivillians, Without Addressing Root Causes of Violence

LOUISVILLE, K.Y. — In response to last week’s renewed push by Mayor Greenberg to criminalize wearing masks, VOCAL-KY released the following statement, attributable to Patrick Moore, a leader with VOCAL-KY:

“If this goes into effect the only people charged will be young Black men and unhoused people thought by an officer to fit the bill for ‘thief,’ while half of the East End could be wearing masks with not a care in the world. We have a right to privacy and health.

This is cover for racial profiling and flagrantly disregards public health – already woefully underfunded – and personal liberty. Public health is improved with investment and education, not criminalization.”
